Above All

I tiptoe into a storm, holding my jacket tight to my chest, feeling the warmth inside of it, feeling thankful for the harsh winds that it keeps out. I look to the others around me, weathering the same conditions. I see resilience in some of their eyes, to hold on fast until the storm passes over, a determination to not give up. I see others, for whom the outside storm has entered their hearts, and their eyes have become cold and cynical. Their warm protective jackets are unzipped, and they have decided to not look anymore for a way forward. Above all of them is a burst of sunlight, breaking through a crack in the clouds, a reminder that behind the dreary and gloomy grey, there is a cascade of blue atmosphere, and a golden light.
