What does this mean in light of being a parent?
What does it mean to serve our children?
It means doing the most humble and menial of tasks to help them thrive and grow. It is saying no to a desire of our heart, to help their dreams flourish. It is getting up in the middle of the night, to comfort them and help them sleep. It is letting go of material aspirations, and instead sowing into their future. Is all of this laying down of ourselves forever? Not necessarily, it is often for a season. The question is, what can we do to give our children the best start and foundation for their life? Being guided by unconditional love will get us there.
