I sat out in the garden hoping for a reprieve
A moment of solitude and beauty to fill my soul
I was greeted by the buzzing of flies
Their pesky noise and unsanitary habits
I sat down by a favourite plant
The flies persisted
And I smelt the unwelcome odor of what the neighbors cat had left in the garden the night before
I got up to leave
My place of beauty was not so refreshing today
And then I saw it
The flutter of little orange wings
A group of three small beautiful butterflies flitting about on the plants
They were not deterred by the cats unwelcome gift
Or the pesky flies
They kept on doing what they know to do
To bring beauty and a lifting of spirits wherever they go
And then I realised that I could see the flies or the butterflies
Both were there
But I had a choice where to put my attention
